I own an E36 and X5 and I have NEVER seen an E31 owner posting on those boards about how the 3 Series sucks and the almight 8 Series is cooler/faster/a better buy..... or whatever.

It's strange how the OTHER BMW owners seem to be attracted to slamming the E31 on OUR board... over and over again.

Why is that? Because they really envy the 8 Series owners secrectly? Or that they have to justify the purchase of some other BMW model and slamming "The Top" makes them feel good.

I paid over $60K for my X5 and only $24,000 for my 850i, yet I have never fielded so much shit from other BMW owners on this board about the 8 Series.

NO! It is not faster off-the-line than a stock M3 (unless you have a 850CSi) SO WHAT? That was not the orginal intent of the car. It's a GT. GRAND TOURING. TOURING..

In the general public though (out driving the 850i) I have the opposite problem... I never stop getting compliments on it... from BOTH BMW and non-BMW owners. Maybe it's this "unfair" attention that ticks off the other Bimwads. Who knows. All I know is that cruising around in my new black X5 gives me barely a glance at the gas station. But I didn't buy any of my BMWs for the attention. Each has it's purpose and is meaningful to ME.

So.. owning an E31 is a double edged sword... hated by some.. loved by others.

I really appreciate that some E31 owners here want to make their E31 BMWs drag racers... that's fine. But do not even dare try to judge those of us who simply like to drive our E31s every day at "above standard performance levels... meaning barely legal" and APPRECIATE the investment made in owning an 8 Series (or really ANY BMW) by taking good care of it and asking others about the upkeep of their cars through this forum. It has saved me literally thousands of dollars and God knows how much time to ask the questions here before going to a dealer to be given the wrong diagnosis.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who post here and continue to provide excellent advise on both the upkeep and modification of the E31 BMW.
