I've recently started watching this forum and one thing becomes very clear. Although the BMW community appears to be very split when it comes to the E31 model, one trend emerges: Those who despise the 8-series in their various, perhaps misguided opinions, all seem to come from the square-brick variety of BMW owners (e.g. 3-7 series, which I'm sorry to say all look alike to me). This distaff side appears to be the more illiterate side of the family (and prone to language suited for their IQ's, oops...I mean ages).

Those who love the 8-series (those of us who own one or those that desire one) appear to be a much more resonable (and educated) side of the family. The 8 series is the 2nd most striking body style in the Bavarian stable (M1 takes the prize here). Personally, I happen to enjoy driving a car that people look at, ask about and strike up conversations over. The fact that "no-one bought them" is a plus in my mind, I don't seem them all over the road like every other model. (The SF Bay Area is a veritable hotbed of hopped up Bimmers, but the 8's get the looks.)

As far as driving ability, please...although I'm a past regional and divisional SCCA champion, one doesn't buy a true GT car to drive like a maniac on city streets. The beauty of the 8 series is what it's built for: autobahn cruising. Is your M3 comfortable at high speeds for 300-400 miles at a stretch? Yes, it has expensive maintenance, and it sucks premium gas, but these are the penance one pays for owning something rare and different. Ask any owner of an older Jaquar, or any Ferarri owner: you have to be prepared for the price of driving a unique car. I'm sorry, but in my opinion, a fast brick is still a brick.

There will always be differences of opinions as long as there's different cars in the world. That's the fun of the game....just try to write with a little more intelligence next time.

: just because you morons dont know how to drive and are jealous is no reason to put down the M3. The M3 did more for the bmw marque than your bloated sh*t-box ever did.

: Question, if the 8 is so good how come nobody bought them? they are pieces of sh*t and so are all of you bloated, bald, stupid, looser white guys!

: the 8 series looks like a door jamb on wheels, its as big as a boat, almost as big as your fat looser asses!

: listen to this and heed my warning, if i ever see one of you idiots on the street you better run or I'll bitch slap you with your own flabby ass!

: go to hell you sh*theads and never return. I think BMW should refit all 8-series by debagding them so that they will stop bringing shame to the bmw brand of otherwise fine automobiles.

: eat my ass and suck my balls!
