Hey Ted,
I have the same problem as you regarding both the headlight issue (unresolved at this point) and the OBC with the Lic. Plate light failure.
I don't see the Lic. Plate lights out on my '92 850i either, but I found out yesterday that one of my reverse lights is out. Perhaps they share the same fault code and since you can't check the reverse white lights unless, well, you're in reverse, this is why it appears to be a gremlin. I have yet to replace the bulb and see if the error code goes away. I need to swing by the dealer to get the correct bulb.
I too suffer from mis-aligned headlights (turned the screws 'til I was blue in the face to fix it but I'm told from other posts here that I need to pay $$ and have the dealer do the adjustment. I've been wondering about brighter bulbs as well. The lights are REALLY dim on my car.
Any input on this from you guys out there??
