The stock BBS rim is FAR less that that, as it is forged, not pulled from a mold. This process enables them to place far more strain on far less material, with FAR less weight. 3 pc. OZ, Breyton, Hamann, etc ARE over 25 lbs, you are correct. Where you are wrong, however, is the "difference." With the tyre, a 28lb wheel is suddenly WAY over 30 lbs., and TRUST me, you need a set of HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY duty bushings, as well as a set of THICK "sway bars" and heavy duty mounts there, too. Keep in mind that my BBS 415mm wheels (16.whatever in. weigh PRECISELY 17.7 lbs each, unweighted, or aound 22-25 with tires. (Depending on the selected tire.) These function properly without all that extra suspension work. (Don't forget coil-overs!) Keeping your unsprung weight to a minimum is CRUTIAL, as is lowering the weight of the car, and rear drive wheels. Believe it or not, a lighter wheel aids acceleration (less than a second to 1/4 mi, but it does help). I have found "the world's lightes rim" for a bimmer, and am testing a set now. They are 17's., weighing 16.5 lbs each, but are not for the pothole streets, if you catch my drift. (NO 17 is, with a 40 or 45 profile tire, even a 30 lb. one!) I have had SEVERAL sets of wheels on SEVERAL BMW coupes and sedans, and the BEST are Fiske, BBS, and HRE. Borbet actually makes a 20lb rim you could squeek by with, and they are GERMAN made. Hamanns are OZ press, from Italy. (Not to knock Italian wheels, but we DO drive German cars!) The Hamanns I got from Wheel Power were very nicely finished, but not worth an extra 2100+in bushings/springs/shocks/etc. to control. Also, cornering is FAR improved with LESS weight at the wheel. It is PHYSICS. Call BBS, and they'll confirm that LIGHTER is BETTER on BIMMERS.
