The federalization process costs around $8k. My suggestion is to familiarize yourself (at least) with the laws that mandate structural changes to the car (bumper modification, etc). Shipping and ancillary costs will be additional to that approximate figure. Your car will automatically become a grey market vehicle once you import the car. In order to combat the instant devaluation of the car, be sure to have ALL historical documentation for the car with the car.

The car should be lighter (3950lbs., wet) and has a few additional options (smoked turn signals, electronic rear sunshade, etc). Of course, this means that there are more things to go wrong with the car, but they are nifty all the same.

Whether or not they are worth $8k is another question... it just depends on how much value you place in not having what everyone else has. IMHO, that is more of a personally subjective question.
