: When I select "Auto" on the drivers side controls & set the controls to something relatively cold, will the AC compressor come on? I haven't activated the "Snow Flake" button, but sometimes it sounds like the AC compressor is running & the air is colder (colder than the outside air) than I thought it should be.

: This is one of the mysteries of the E31's HVAC system. The AC compressor is indeed on. To turn it off, WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING, turn the blower control wheel all the way to SHUT OFF the HVAC system. (Green lights all out.) Wait a few seconds, and then turn it on again. If the "snow flake" button is NOT depressed, and the temp control is set at, say, 65 degrees, the system will pump outside air into the cabin. (Providing you haven't selected the "recirculate" option.) This is useful on a spring or fall day when you want some air circulating and you don't want to open a window (such as when you're chomping up the miles on the freeway).
