Was the 850i available in 1990 in Europe? (archive)

I have a book on supercars that includes the 850i.
It states the first year as 1990. I know the first year available in the US was 1991, but often BMW releases models earlier in Europe.
Maybe that's where Roundel got the first year as 1990, or maybe they where sold in 1990 as 1991 models, which would help explain why there seems to be more 1991 model years available than any other single year.
