Len,

I had the same problem with my unit and just assumed it was a problem inherent with the sport suspension on the 850's. However, when the cartridge stuck in the unit I was forced to send it in for repair (200.00 for any and all repair--essentially if it can't be fixed you get a refurb). Well, when I got it back it skipped less. It seems to be a combination of 4 things in order of importance here:

#1. Right rear shock absorber--bad shock was making all CD's skip on any and all bumps.

#2. Tires (Pirelli's made it skip more, Dunlops less). Probably due to the rigidity of the sidewall since I have 245/45 17's on the rear and the sidewall absorbs less than the stock 16" rim/tires.

#3. Cartridge alignment in the unit. Had mine get so bad it finally stuck in the unit and had to be sent in for repair.

#4. When they work on the CD unit. There are four small gel filled shock absorbers at the chasis mounting points within the unit. If the technician overstresses any of them they take time to uncompress and work as they should.

Hope this helps. Also, be sure that the mounting bolts are TIGHT on the unit as these sometimes are not tightened correctly after the right rear battery is replaced and they have to remove the CD unit.

Also, from a physics standpoint the verticle mounting was less than optimal IMNSHO.
