window washer (archive)

I own a '92 850iA ('91 model euro spec) which has two containers for window washer fluid (one in the back and one in the engine compartment; this last one acts as a buffer).
The one in the front is empty and normally this would mean that it's filled from the back one (I've heard this happing...it's a rather strange noise comming from the back). I don't get any 'empty fluid' messages from the OBC (I also filled up the container in the back to make sure). When I use the window washer it goes ahead rubbing its windshield without any fluid...

I think it doesn't 'see' the empty container...any leads how to tackle this problem ?
