What's first? (archive)

Just bought a 1991 850i with 78K miles. It came to the dealer through an auction. I've identified the name of the previous owner but have yet to make contact.

Given what you experts know about this model, what should I have checked out or be worried about first?

The pixel display is goofy and will be replaced by the dealer and the top doesn't quite close in the right position.

My worry at the moment is a surging when attempting to hold 65 mph in third (where it is most notable).

Any advice for the new kid on the block?
