For those following this thread I called the BMW service rep that has been very helpful to me as a new owner of my 840Ci. First he told me the same thing that Bert said, turn the radio on and enter the 5 digit number. When I told him that did not work he looked in the folder and found that they had changed the code after they had the batteries out while it was in their shop just after I received the car. They had put the note in the glove box with the radio code. I thought the previous owner had put it there. When I advised him that the code did not work he gave me the procedure for changing the code. It requires that the ignition be turned to the accessory position and the radio and ignition be left on for at least 70 minutes, then the code entered. Worked first time! No mention made of the 24 hour requirement.

Now if I could only get the new remote key I bought as a replacement for the one that was worn out and not functioning to work on the doors and security system. I followed the owners manual directions for set-up but no luck. The remote responds as stated but the car does not. Any suggestions.

Norm
