kmsnsx,
First, forgive any childish responses you may get from some on this board that may be visiting from elsewhere (another planet?). Second, the NSX is a higher performance and lower maintenance car than even the venerable 850CSi. So, if you are looking for raw performance, you would probably have to go with some VERY expensive (read twin turbos, EH intakes, exhaust system, chips, etc) mods to break even on the 0-60 type stuff. However, the 8 series is a very refined high-speed highway cruiser. I would have to disagree on the Harley thing in that the 8 series still has a little more road handling finesse than a Cadillac Seville (a good car alternative to a Harley). I would say the 8 is similar to the R1200RS in the fact that it has class, speed, and handling as well as being very well mannered at high speeds for LONG periods of time. I have never driven an NSX and consider them attractive and fast. However, I have seen many more NSX's on the road than 8's, so you will be a little more exclusive with the 8 (although you probably get more than your share of other-driver appreciation now so that won't be that much of an issue to you). I am approaching the 130,000 mile mark on my '92 850i 6 speed and have not experienced a lot of mechanical problems that some have here, just minor cosmetic stuff and a few mildly irritating issues (windshield washer bottle keeps breaking, sunroof keeps getting out of alignment). Hey, why not keep the NSX AND get an 8? With the fact that they have been out of production and you can get a good used one in the low 20's now, you could have the best of both the Asian and Teutonic worlds?

: I am considering buying a '91-'91 850i. I currently own a '92 NSX. I was wondering if the performance is at all comparable, and if the maintenance costs are very high. I have always been impressed by the 8-series styling and rarity. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
