: Len and Lez,
: Maybe I am missing the bracket that is referred to. To back up a bit, yes, I have the proper molding with a hole in it for the changer to be exposed. The car came with it and some sort of "pocket" that was in the hole. I took the molding out and the next thing that I see is the battery. There are two threaded holes in the bottom of the compartment and two mounts in the top of the compartment (each with a fixed, threaded stud and a hole). I'm guessing that someone neglected to put something back when the batteries were changed at some point. The wiring is all in place, because I was able to get the changer working, but just sitting on the floor of the trunk (no intention of driving this way, to be sure).
: What do you guys think?
: Thanks,
: Marc
: : : Hi. I have a 95 840Ci with the Pioneer head unit and purchased a BMW/Pioneer 6-disk changer from a dealership via mail order. They sold me two things, the cd-changer kit, which came with the changer and a bracket and a bunch of screws (and instructions for installing in a 3-series, BTW), and another bracket kit. I have no instructions for installing in an 8-series and have tried to figure out how the brackets might assemble together and to the car, but I can't get it. The two part numbers that I received were:
: : : 82-11-1-467-700 (the changer and a bracket)
: : : 82-11-1-467-059 (the other bracket kit)
: : : Does anybody have any thoughts?
: : : Thanks
: : Marc,
: : Do you have a place on the rear passenger side of the trunk in the interior molding for the CD changer to pop through? You may need to purchase this as well if the car did not come with a CD changer.
: : If you remove the molding that I am describing you should see the bracket where the CD changer mounts (right in front of the battery). Holding the CD changer vertically (The way it is designed to mount in the 8 series) so the CD caddy door opens up and to the left, you will place one of the brackets that “hooks” onto the car on the left side of the changer on the back (left side from the perspective of when holding the changer with the CD caddy door open you can’t see the hole for the caddy to go in). The other mounting bracket goes on the right side and will screw into the receiving hole on the car.
: : When hooking up the wires prior to mounting the changer, be sure to secure them by using the clips that should be on the receiving bracket in the car. You don’t want them floating around.
: : The CD changer will slide into the receiving bracket from the left to the right & the screw holes will line up. There is only one screw holding the changer to the bracket (10mm box wrench on mine BTW). Tighten this screw & you are in business.
: : This may sound vague, but without pictures it is very difficult to describe. Good luck.

Without seeing pictures, it looks like you are missing the receiving bracket. It is to the left of the battery (looking into the trunk at the right side) and runs vertically from the top of the trunk to the bottom. This is what the CD changer mounts to. It should be directly perpendicular and about 4 – 5 inches to the right of the opening where the CD changer will pop through on the molding. There are a pair of clips on the bottom of the receiving bracket that you will use to secure the wires to. If you don’t have this bracket you (obviously) will need to purchase it. I don’t have a digital camera or I would take pictures for you so this would make more sense.
