: I have read no less than four solutions to the limp home problem on the 850i. I have recently purchased a '91 Mauritious Blue 850i with 124k miles and get the limp home mode at cold start up when very cold out. The EML light also comes on as well. After warm up and stop and restart, the problem goes away.
: First solution I have read here: Fouled plug! (I should be so lucky)
: Second: Needs one or both DK Motors.
: Third: Pulse generator sensor (what is this?)
: Fourth: Intake manifold gasket leak.
: I think that my problem is the gasket leak, since I also have a rough and surging idle when cold. I guess that the computer is trying correct the fuel-air mixture.
: How much is it to change the gasket? Any quick fixes?
: What about performance mods? Better manifold? How much?
Don't jump on the gasket bandwagon too quickly. I had the rough & surging idle and it was one DK motor. I have seen on this board that you should replace them both at once, but at ~$900.00 each I will do one at a time (besides the replacement was covered under the emissions warranty so I would have had to pay for a "free" service to have them do both). What area are you in? I can recommend who to go to and who to avoid if you are local to me.
