Although I certainly won't make any disparaging remarks regarding the SL500 and performance I will say that as far as styling and beauty I don't think the SL can hold a candle to the 8 series. I mean, what is with the HUGE emblem on the fronts of the rather boxy noses? Is MB afraid someone won't know who produced the car? Also, the interior is a little spartan for my tastes (as are Porsches). In closing, I don't know how it is where you live, but I can't swing a dead cat without hitting an SL series here in OKC, but I have only seen 3 or 4 8 series in the three years I have owned mine. My .02 worth.

: Cloud on the horizon. Whilst actively looking for an 840 my wife hits me with the bombshell 'I like the Merc SL series'.

: In the UK I would probably get a 1993 SL500 for the same price as a 1995 840 although I am not too worried about age of vehicle.

: Anyone able to give me views on a comparison between the two based on experience?
