Hi Lez. Thanks for your advise. I just wanted to point out that the discoloration was on the PAINT, not on the intake or any mechanical part in the engine compartment. When the paint turns brown, I'd think it's due to the excessive heat.

: :

: Could have been a normal discoloration due to a big V12 engine and slant nose. Most of the V12 has discoloration on the intake and perfectly normal no overheating ! I wouldn't want you buying something you don't like but the '97 850Ci is still under warranty so any damage might a car have will be fixed for free at the dealer.
: If I have warranty I don't care about mechanical condition just paint damage and interior condition. If you want to avoid the blind-buys keep looking and if you see something you really like take a time and expense and travel a bit. Don't trust anyone ! Specially the dealers ! They will tell how beautiful a car and how smooth is and when you are there with a money what you find a piece of junk. They will tell you that the car just been sold this is an another one or it might have been a misunderstanding etc. Belive me I'm telling it from experience ! Once you walked into their cave they think you might as well spend all the money you have. (and they already know how much you have becuse you told them you want their car) so you have less negotiating point and plus you traveled a thousand miles.. etc. So DON'T TRUST ANYONE but your own eyes !
