The console light is the alarm indicator. When you fully lock the door with the key (all the way to the right, to the second detent) it activates the alarm. If you only turn the key partially to the right (first detent) it only locks the doors (it's in the owners manual but not very clear). On my single button keyless, only the doors lock, the alarm does not go on. There have been a number of posts below concerning the keyless entry, and frankly I'm somewhat confused as to whether US models had a one or two button keyless in the early years.

: On my console near the gear selctor is a small dome shaped protrusion that blinks red when the doors are locked. I just recently purchased the car and it came with a single key with no indication of keyless entry or alarm. Does the flashing red light indicate the car has an alarm or do they all have this feature as a ruse for car theft?
