Gregg,

The first thing I would do is take it to the dealership and check the true oil pressure. Low oil pressure is a VERY serious condition and should never be ignored (I was in a friend's car after he ignored the oil pressure warning light in his car--not a BMW-- and was witness to the piston rod getting rammed through the oil pan.)

On a less scary note, I would check the oil pressure sending unit (not sure where it is located on the 8 cyl. but it is on the bottom of the oil filter unit on the 12's)and replace to be sure it is not just working intermittently.

: Dear Exalted E31 Devotees - -

: I need your help and sage advice.

: On two of four recent short trips around town, the oil light came on in the instrument panel and the "low oil pressure" warning came across the computer. Stopped at nearest gas station and checked the oil level - it reads full. Watched the temperature gauge - stayed smack in the middle (12 O'clock) as it always does. Performance is as strong as ever. No other noticable drivability issues.

: What gives? Could it really be an oil pressure thing? Is it just a sensor? Note: On the last short trip I took (approximately 2 miles) no lights and no warnings.

: Anyone have any thoughts or common experiences?

: Thanks in advance,
: Gregg
