I am seeking stereo system advice.

After pondering and pondering for quite some time, I believe I have reached a fair compromise with respect to my dissatisfaction with the stock stereo system.

I originally thought about replacing the entire system with a Blapunkt Toronto or Sydney system with all Blapunkt amps and speakers. However, even though both the Toronto and the Sydney have cellular phone interfaces, I am concerned that I will loose the tight integration between the stock stereo & phone.

My current plan is to replace the amp and the speakers with aftermarket equipment. I realize that I will have to make a custom wiring harness for the connections (or just document and cut the existing connector off), but I don’t feel that doing so is a big deal. I plan on using all of the existing wiring that BMW was so kind to install for me.

This way I keep the head unit with all of it’s integration, and should reap the benefits of better speakers and amplification (I am an audio freak when it comes to sounding good – not necessarily loud -- just good) .

I am asking the board this – am I missing something here? Could it be this “easy”?

Your expertise and advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Len Cacioppo
