: Hi, I own a '97 840Ci and searched everything for mods to make a car quicker. I feel like a dead end with the 4.4l V8 engine. The only mods available are :
- changing the rear diff gear to a shorter (higher num) and therefore having a little higher noise and quicker accelaration.
- Supercharger - ESS makes a kit for about 4,700USD and put little over 400Hp on board.
- as far as exhaust - they might gain you an extra 3-6HP - if that - for about 1,500USD so that is out of a question for me.
- ECU reprogramming - I spoke to a lot of expert - Jim Conforti , ERT Tuning, Superchip, nobody has a chip for this V8 after '95 (OBDII system)
- K&N Filter replacement - didin't do anything
- K&N Filter Cone - made the car noiser under heavy throttle and gained a few HP only at the higher rpm range (over 4,000prm) but because most of the time I'm between 2,200-4,000rpm didn't do any good to me, so I went back to the original settings.
- intake manifold change - way too much money for the HP gain
- special camshaft - over 4,500USD final cost for about 30HP gain at the higher rpm band. Out of my interest.
if anybody has any idea , I'm also interested, so please let us know.
Thank you !
