I have tried:
Michelin, Pirelli, Sumitomo, and Dunlops.
So far the Dunlops have given the best mileage. (Although the Sumitomo's gave good mileage also, I just got tired of people saying "Sumitomo? Who are they?" Actually, Dunlop's are OEM Sumitomo's or vice-versa depending whether you live in US or Japan ;-)

P.S. Just got my copies of the original dealer pamphlets from Walter Miller Auto Literature (for the '91/'92 model year. Interesting to say the least). According to the literature, 0-60 time for the 6spd is 6.1 seconds and 6.9 for the Autobox. I was under the impression you had to have a CSi to get times like that. BMWNA lying? Mind you, this is the BMWNA original sales pamphlet for the '91 model year of the 296 h.p. V-12. (print date of 3/91)

: Remember that tires are also rated on softness, not just size and speed-capability. Soft tires are great if you want a lot of grip when you turn. However, you will wear 'em right down if you smoke the tires by coming of the line fast or if you do an emergency hard braking which will create a flat spot (experience talking).
