60,000km? That's 36,000 miles, right? Is it even broken in yet? Jeez, don't listen to the people on here. You aren't buying a $100,000 dollar car, it's only $28,000. I would take it to a reputable mechanic and have him/her take a look at it and do all the necessary tests to determine engine, transmission, brake system status. At 36,000 miles the car is just BARELY broken in. If the previous owner had only 3 oil changes that would be the BMW factory recommended maintenance. I bought a '92 with 54,000 miles and no records, had it checked out (I mean, really, there are only so many moving wearing systems on a car, and they can all be evaluated by someone with half a brain). 54,000 miles is now 133,000 miles (221,600km) and I have not had any engine or transmission problems. Also, I bought a used Thunderbird with 30,000 undocumented miles on it as well, and it now has 250,000 miles (417,000km) with only a head gasket replaced. Am I the luckiest man on earth as far as mechanical repairs? No, I don't think so, and I am not anal about upkeep. I would be more concerned about things like chip, suspension, and other modifications. I would rather have a car without performance upgrades and no records than a car with full records and a lot of performance upgrades (to me, it means someone that was out there THRASHING the damn thing). Records don't mean a whole lot in a day when anyone with a color printer can make their own.

If I listened to the "no records, no car" I would still be looking......

: Dear experts,

: I am posting this message with a question that is making me crazy. The other day I went to my local BMW-dealer (in Sweden) and spotted a very nice BMW 850iA.

: The car is from 1993 and has a milage of 60000 kilometers. The price tag is around $28K which I am considering to be fairly OK.

: The problem is the following. The car has had two owners where the first owner was a german who imported the car to Sweden. The second buyer bought the car in 1997 and unfortunately the car only has a documented history from there on.

: By reading some articles in this forum many of you would really recommend me not to buy the car as I have no clue of what happened to it during its firts years, but I have inspected thet car up and down and taken it for a spin and it really gets to me as a car in good shape.

: What should I do...listen to my brain and not buy it, or listen to my heart and buy it? ;-)
