The DOHC 6.0l 48valve version would have been an awesome engine. But I think they made this engine but not for a BMW, but for a McLaren F1. As far as I know that is a heavily modified 6liter 4 valves/cyl version of the "good old" BMW V12, made by //M Motorsport. So I belive there might be a possibility that they made a few 8 series with that engine but probably never sold them.

Maybe if someone would put a McLaren F1 engine's head on the 5.7l V12 from a CSI or a 5.4l V12 out of a regular Ci and reprogram the ECU ... then it would be one hell of an expensive car ...
oke, I'm just dreaming here ... but seriusly the F1 has that engine and makes 600HP !!!
