The chips are in... Conforti (archive)

I'd read all the facts and figures, graphed the dyno results, compared different tuners claims, talked to others, even exchanged a series of emails with Conforti several times about Car & Driver reports, stalling problems (non-existent), etc. I was very suspicious about chips, particularly after the de-bunking articles in the magazines.

So I put them in yesterday. To call what a pair of these chips does to the V12 a transformation would be a sad description. The idle and higher rpms are noticeably smoother and crisper. The engine winds up much, much faster under load (acceleration). The entire power band is noticeably stronger, including the prior "flat-spot" from 5-6k rpm. And, wether its the chips, the SuperSprint exhaust, the 3.15LS rear, or all three working in unison the car now chirps all the way through 3rd gear (it helps to turn ASC off :')).

Its pretty amazing to worry about oversteer because the car accelerates so hard that the front tires now become light from transfer. Thank you, Jim Conforti, Mr. Castle, Stephen and the others who made these possible. Wow, was BMW ever asleep at the switch when they missed this one.

I'm sure others can report, but I've heard that BMP's chips and Autothorities are excellent too. And then there's "The Program" which may well be the ultimate re-tuning effort. Whichever, the car is much more fun to drive chipped.
