How many 850CSI's made it to NA? (m) (archive)

I can almost count on my fingers the number of 850's I've seen on the road so I can only imagine how many 850CSI's there are. I'm looking to get an 850 in a couple of years...How soon would I have to start searching for a CSI?
Also what happened to the "real M8's" that BMW was tinkering with before they shelved the project and then inexplicably produced CSI's which was basically the same thing? Are their any M8's in existence today? Does some BMW executive have his grubby mits on one?
