Engine software upgrade - $499
Transmission software upgrade - $199
They pointed me to the authorized / tranied Dinan Bmw dealership in Md. I spoke to the staff Dinan trained technician and he explained it was a software download.
In addition, each upgrade is worth "points" a total of 10 points in Dinan upgrades (to include wheels, performance mods, exhaust etc)earns the customer the DINAN badge for their car. I guess at this point your car is recognized by DINAN as a Dinan BMW (re: on their list). Good marketing as I assume the 10 points could run around $8-$10k.
I've decided not to install the K&N and am scheduled for the software upgrades next week. You can see the latest products for our 840's on their site (incl. the authorized dealers).
I'll checkout my steptronic and let you know what it does in comp. to yours. I've only had it for about a month and have been traveling a bit, so I've not really had a chance to drive it yet. Your 840 is very sharp!

: No, I don't have any modifications internally. I tried a K&N Cone filter, but so far made more noise (under throttle) and nothing else. I think the air intake on the 8 series is very unique and I belive it is actually working properly.
: On the other hand, I'd like to have a chip installed but didn't find one yet. I heard Dinan makes chip for the 96+ OBDII , but everybody told me (Conforti, Superchips, ERT etc.) the chip will do nothing because the computer resets itself after a while. So if you have it done, please let me know how do you feel about it. The trans. chip puts the tranny into the sport mode all the time, which is oke, but I haven't tried that either. I usually use the manual control over the auto when I'm in a hurry.
: / However there is a small trouble with that, and I think you could help me out here. When I'm in a manual mode, and stop at the red light , the tranny shifts back to 3rd only, not to 1st or 2nd. Is it yours a same way ? I always have to pull it back to 1st before I take-off again, and it really bothers me, because my cousin's VW Passat shiftronic tranny shifts back to 1st when he makes a complete stop./
: Thank you , and good luck !
