E31 maintainance issues? (archive)

Just a few more questions for you lucky 8-series owners :)

how much $$$ each year would be a fair estimate of overall expenses on an 850i? NOT including modifications/upgrades, just maintainance and such.

Do the E31 cars have any of the common steering wheel shimmy problems that the E21 and E30 cars tend to have?
Is it expensive to fix? (any more than the 3-series).

at what mileage do E31's need "a lot of money" spent on them? What I mean is that E30 3-series cars usually run ok until about 100K miles and then they need $1500-$2500 of work done on them.

Are there any benefits/bad things about buying an 840 instead of an 850?
