It's a bolt-in replacement mechanically for the 4HP24. You would have to install a new center console with the Steptronic switch assembly, but the shift cable routing is the same as the 4-speed.

While the 5HP24 is mechanically compatible with the M70, its EGS control module is not backward compatible with the M70 EML and DME controllers. Also the wiring harness is different - mostly to incorporate the microswitches necessary for "stick shift" mode. There's also an additional solenoid valve in the tranny, and a temperature sensor not incorporated in the 4-speed.

Didn't Dinan do some development work on a Steptronic-like software upgrade for the 4-speed auto? Combine this with the factory Steptronic shift console, and maybe you can do the same for the 4-speed.
