Like most here I have discovered that the dealer knows diddly about the 850. There are a few generic matters that are carried throughout all series just being BMW I suppose. However recently when I took my 1991 850i in for some work, it turned into a nightmare which at a more opportune moment I will share with all. The events are truly comic when viewed from a third person perspective (another slipping on the banana).
However, when I left the shop, the Sunroof which was working fine when I went in there decided it didn't want to work. I discovered this as I was pulling out from the dealer and being totally pissed at the time I pulled a U and immediately told them to fix it and we didn't mention the word charge at all. A mechanic came out and he took a hex allen wrench type of tool and played with a section near the control and then after some playing around it worked again. Their explanation to me was that I held the button with constant pressure when I opened or closed the sunroof!!!! They advised me to just quickly hit or apply the control button and let the top perform it's miracle of opening or closing all on it's own. They said that if it doesn't peform immediately to just touch it again quickly as in a tap until it does perform it's task. But, never hold the button while it works its duty.

Perhaps some others out there have some input on this little scenario, it would be interesting to know the actual truth, which I doubt very much if this dealer is accustomed to providing in any case. Gee, do I sound a bit bitter or afraid to bend over if I drop something when at the local dealer?
Thanks, Kurt
