I found a way to circumvent the famous cup holder problem. I got one of those adjustable cup holders like you get at a discount parts store, and I mounted it to the right rear of my driver's side floor mat on that little level plateau in front of the seat. There is enough room under my knee pit to put a glass or a coffee cup without a conflict. In the event that I would have to make an evasive maneuver with a beverage in the holder, the only thing that would suffer would be my floor mat or possibly carpet. The only thing you have to watch out for is short mechanics or valet parkers. If they slide the seat up without looking, it will crack the plastic cup holder.
