: Hopefully you've had some time to enjoy your M5. It would be really interesting to hear your impression of the car compared to your former 850/6. I'm intrigued since the two share the same "high performance yet high weight" issue, both being about 4200lbs. Granted there's more HP on tap for the M5, but how do they compare or are we into apples and oranges territory?

Thanks for the inquiry on this forum. The M5 is truly an amazing car. There is so much power across the RPM range that it is almost funny. The 0-60 times are very believable and the car is just solid. Two dissapointments: First, the brakes. A general BMW problem, I wish that BMW would take a lesson from Porsche on brakes. I have a 928GTS that stops on a Dime and is nearly the same weight as the M5. It has HUGE rotors and massive four piston calipers. Second, wind noise above 100 mph. Here is where the E31 was really strong. Over 100MPH the 850 was still pin drop silent. The M5 lets in a lot of wind. Other than those two shortfalls, the car is simply amazing. But, as I mentioned in an earlier post, if I was offered a 2000 M5, or a 2000 850csi(if they still made one) I would take the csi every time.
