Must be a common 6spd problem! I did the same thing (trying to hold my coffee and shift at the same time?). I removed the switch and washed it out with warm water. Then used compressed air to blow it out as well as possible and left it out for 48 hours to make sure there was no water left in the swith. Put it back in, and voila! The spring was working and the switch was working. The secret to cleaning electrical components with water is to make sure they are (obviously) not getting any current during the cleaning process and then to insure they are TOTALLY dry before re-installing.Jim Surdick

: : : I never drink, eat, f..k in my car, I'm only driving it !!! There is no real cupholder in the 8 series (yes, inside the glovebox there are 2 little something) for some reason !
: : Are u sure the switch has gone bad after a coffee ? I usually clean out switches with WD40 and they are seems to work fine in older cars. But maybe it is too late now.
: : BTW : I made that 3-//M color stipe for you. So you still want it ?

: Actually it was the sugar that dried out on the switch. I tried the wd-40 thing with the original switch, but it never got it's spring back.
