The well documented woes of the Nasdaq stock market mean I had to let go the 1997 840 I almost purchased a couple of weeks ago. To those that were interested this means I will not be able to pull any details on the front arm rest which was fitted to that car, sorry ;-(

However, all is not lost as I can still afford to own and run an 8 series..........it will just have to be an older one.

My wife is VERY keen on having brilliant red. There are only 2 for sale at this time, both are same price:

1993 850 auto. 56k miles. Main dealer history up to last oil service but now 6k miles overdue an Inspection I service. Last receipt for work done on the car there were some steeering / suspension parts replaced as they had rusted. I believe this is due to the car spending the last 3 years right on the south coast of England (salt spray country).

1994 840 auto. 78k miles. Full main dealer history, just had Inspection II. Engine has the original Nikasil V8 block. I would not buy without having all three parts of the M60 engine test carried out but that is of course no guarantee.......

Which one is the better proposition? Avoid both and wait for something else to turn up?

Out of interest I spoke to my local main dealer and they say the M60 warranty is 5 years / 100k miles whichever is first. This does not seem to stack up with the 6 years in the USA. The dealer did say I would not be out on my own if the engine failed, BMW would 'make a contribution'. Wonder what he would have said if I asked for that in writing ;-)
