BMW has a fix for this which involves adding a noise filter in the engine compartment between the ground nut and the positive line at the jumper (+) box. The filter should be able to be purchased at the dealer (installation looks fairly easy, but I don't know details). If you get a chance to look at someone's 8 that has this fix, the filter is a large capacitor-like cylinder on the driver's side fender.

: Has anyone ever installed a noise filter on the e31? Apparently connected in series to the power off the stereo and screwed in it will also? eliminate that alternator high pitched feedback in addition to the radio crackles. Is this true? How should I install it? ('93 850ci)
