Battery replacement (archive)

I own a 1994 730. If I want to replace the battery under the back seat, is it just a matter of disconnecting the leads and replacing the battery?. Also I have noticed a rectangular black box lying beside the battery (it's got a co-axial connector on it along with some other connectors). This box is not screwed down and seems out of place.
Pls help if you can
