: Yesterday, late afternoon, I was doing some interior work on my '92 850 when I noticed something new (to me anyway). The sun was shining on the dashboard just right, and in the "idiot" light panel on the right hand side (below the fuel gauge), I noticed a fault indicator that appears to be for 4-wheel steering (looks like a plan view of the system with all four wheels at an angle).

: My question - Was BMW already planning 4-wheel steering as early as the '92 model year, or was it already available in Europe? They must have had something in mind or there wouldn't be an indicator.

I can confirm it is for 4 wheel steer. My UK spec 1993 850Ci has this option fitted.
