I spoke with one body shop today regarding a paint job and they showed me some of their work. The paint on the cars was exactly as from the factory - shiny and smooth but with a slight ripple in the reflection. When I questioned this, the rep. stated that factory paint is done this way to hide minor imperfections and that a perfect mirror job would be another $400 above the normal quote of $4K. Normal?

What was really interesting was their astonishment that I pay for the job out of pocket. Very bluntly they suggested I commit insurance fraud. Am I supposed to consider this a gesture of kindness that they look out for my wallet or is this an issue dishonest enough to find a new body shop?
