Mystery red-light...old alarm system?? (archive)

Hello wise men:

My 93 50ci has a red "bulb" in the dashboard a short distance above the headlight switch...a conspicuous location for what I believe may have been an aftermarket alarm system. It does not illuminate when the code is set, nor when the car is double-locked. Worst of all, I don't see it in my owner's manual. I am in the market for a repair manual BTW =)..preferrably in English. I remain,
