The effect You describe is correct if You don't push mor air in to the tires.
If You increase the preasure in the tire the patch area (contact area of tire to ground) will decrease and You will get the same pounds/sq. inch.
On wider tires You often use more preasure.

Spacers:
The AEZ Paron rimes that I'm using have a offset of 15 mm compared to the original that have 19 mm.
To make the center of tire to be on the same position on the car I have to move the offset by 4 mm.
I also have a wider tire then original 245 insted of 235 which forces me to move the rim aditionaly 5 mm out ((245-235)/2) this gives me an required spacer offset of 9 mm, and the closet one is 10 mm.
