Transmission advice please (archive)

1993 850Ci auto 74k miles with adaptive transmission.

This is all second hand information from my wife but I thought I would pose the question before getting home tonight to check the car out.

She called me this morning to say whilst driving through town the transmission had a heavy change (she heard a thud) then the OBC flagged up a fault condition (which she missed reading properly but 'trans' something!!) followed by refer to owners manual.

However, the fault condition was only displayed very briefly, did not stay on and has not come back since.

Any advice prior to getting home would be appreciated. We have only owned the car 3 weeks and I do not want my wife associating our 8 series with unreliability!!!
