Hi Kurt

You probably have an intermittent fault. A sudden drop in current, will trigger a fault even if it is very short drop. Check for corrosion and bad connections in the sockets and wiring. Also BMW's are very sensitive to non-BMW bulbs. Replacing them to BMW approved ( I know this is making you sick... ) bulbs sometimes cures the problem too.
