: The most important lesson learned at the dyno session was that use of extrude-honed intake manifolds on a 12 cyl. engine offer substantial and verifiable performance gains. At least in the case of 850CSi's, the car so equipped was putting out more power and torque at the lower and upper rpm ranges WITHOUT Jim C. tuning than the non-extrude honed intake 850CSi AFTER Jim C. tuning. With the addition of Jim C. tuning, the extrude honed equipped car surpassed through the entire rpm band. As I've mentioned before, the gains he obtained on the 6-speed 850i's were huge, and I imagine that a 6-speed 850i with Jim C. chips and extrude honed intakes would be even more so.
: Whether you have an 850i or 850CSi, what makes these cars so pleasurable to drive is the torque. Study the torque curves, and you'll understand why we're all driving around with grins on our faces.
Steve --
I'm a new reader on this forum, so I apologize for the lateness of this response/query.
I have a '93 ci, auto, 80K miles, w/ Dinan engine and transmission chips, Remus exhaust and K&N filters, all of which have been on the car since late '95. Korman in Greensboro NC has done all that work, and they have recommended AGAINST the extruded intakes. They say they've tried it on a couple of E-31s and have had low-speed drivability problems. So I'm sort of in a quandry. I don't want to spend the money on the Dinan intakes if I can have mine extruded, but on the other hand the tuner -- and as you know, Korman is very well-regarded -- that I've been using says not to do it. So what gives? Should I go w/ the Dinan intakes, or should I get another oppinion? And do you know of anyplace else in the Va, DC or NC area to contact?
Thanks, Al
