94 840ci all show no go (archive)

Possibly one of you people can help me. My 840 (auto)has no guts. Accelerating from a stop in D4, traction control off, I could'nt light up the rear tires on a bet. Regular drive is a total joke. The transmission shifts fine and hiway performance is adequate.It runs smoothly on all eight. I've heard of the early engine block problems but this car uses no oil and does not smoke. I've checked the ECU and it appears there has been a dealer replacement chip installed. It feels like the timing is retarded and I'm thinking that it's detuned somehow.
