In Reply to: I.S.O. how-to flush p/s fluid...thanks (eom) posted by Christopher aka Puff on July 05, 2000 at 23:51:53:

: You need a special fluid, not a regular p/s fluid from a local store !!!
you'll need about 750ml which is 1 can. Pentosin CHF11S . I read a long article about how to replace the fluid with a brake fluid first and it was somehow connected to the brake system !?! I didn't understanded the whole explanation and wasn't really sure why do I have to drain a fluid in the brake system when all I want is the power steering fluid. There was something about the traction control, brake booster, etc. I wish I could remember more...
Anyway what I did is disconnected the hose on the lower side of the p/s reservoir and drained the system, and refilled with new fluid on the top. Turn the steering left-right several times, to ensure proper fluid flow and that is all. I figured it is better then leaving the old fluid there and since I didn't have any problem with a p/s it was good enough for me. Do you have any problem with a p/s ? Leak, or anything else ? Better be fixed that first and then replace the fluid. The can runs about 25-30USD. (Weird, smelly green stuff)
