Do not worry if you are not the original owner or have 80K miles. The short block is covered for 100K miles and the coverage goes with the car not the owner. Ask for a leakdown test. Say that your car idles rough.

'95 840ci - new short block at 18,000 miles - second owner

: It certainly sounds like I have that no-go chip in the ECU. I'll check compression and talk to the dealer but I don't expect much. I'm not the original owner and 80K.
: Im afraid if that's the case, if I install an aftermarket chip I'll eventually cause the damage that BMW's trying to avoid. Thanks for your input.
