1. Engine rough idle - I had a same car and a valve cover gasket was leaking, that caused a rough idle.
2. Also check the nikasil block, you might need a block because I think the rough idle is the first sign of a cylinder wall wear ! You have plenty of warranty left , so check the dealer about engine replacement !
3. catalic converter - at 44k miles it is hard to belive the cats are gone. Usually they are last at least 100k miles ! If it was damaged even it is a cosmetic damage, it wont be under warranty because the interior of the cat could have been damaged !!! No phisical damage is warrantied !
Do you have a check engine light on ??? That is indicates the problem with cats or O2 sensors !

: I was told by an independent mechanic that the catalytic converter is damaged and it has factory warranty and I should have the dealer change it. He said however that the damage is mostly cosmetic and not functional and dealer may not want to change it. Any advice on how I can approach the dealer with this problem so that they go ahead and fix it.
: Also, recently the car idles kind of rough (mostly when the air conditioner is on). Any advice on how I should deal with this issue?

: Thanks.
