The instructors advised all cars to turn ASC+T off for all exercises at the event. From their comments, I gather that its more of a safety feature (and a worthwhile one at that) than a performance driving feature. They were very picky about how and when we applied brakes and backed off the gas and the ASC+T simply does so when it senses wheel slip, regardless of wether it was intentional or not. In hindsight it would be interesting to try the exercises with it on to see the car's reaction. Something for the next school.

The 840 seemed to do just as well. Rob had his '97 840 at the event and appeared to do very well even with stock tires and rims. I watched him run part of the skid pad and slalom. He was moving nice and fast in both. The car looked like it was doing great. Alot of the M3s and other BMWs were autoboxes and at least one owner commented on the less complicated nature of performance driving not having to worry about gear selection and clutches. Manual owners were also reminded not to spin and roll backward without engaging the clutch to avoid damaging their engines.
