Hi Len,
Okay, so what you're really trying to say is that you tore my shift knob completely off its lever at the BMW Driver's School, right? :'). I think that both models are fastened the same way, but suffer from BMW's current-model problem: The shift knob is a friction fit and simply pops on or off. Unless its glued (as my original was) it can be pulled off pretty easily, including spirited shifting. I recently changed the standard leather 6spd knob to the 2000 M5's combination burl wood and leather knob to match my interior and gain the illuminated 6spd pattern. My original knob was a PITA to remove because it was securely glued. Looks like this one will need the same treatment. As far as the angle of the console, I didn't notice any difference between yours, mine, Rob's '97 840 or others I've seen. Do they really have different angles?

>>>One thing that no one mentioned is the center console is a different geometry. The slope is reduced from the 91's (I have a '94). I prefer the '94, but I am sure that is just because the other cars are "different" than mine when I sit in them. Also...the stick shift seems to be fastened differently that the earlier cars (but this is just a guess)<<<<
