Removing the Car Phone (archive)

Hello All,

I would like to remove the unwieldly car phone from the center console of my 8 and I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this the correct way so I do not break or damage anything. I'd like to replace the area with a nice armrest. That old-skool phone really makes the car look kind of old, even though it's a '94 and I keep it as clean as I can.

Any ideas, hints or tips would be highly appreciated.
