It's easy...just unplug the handset, then pull up the console, which snaps in (you may need to use a clean putty knife to release the clips around the edges). Turn the console over and you can remove the screws that hold in the handset bracket. BTW - Regarding Dave's response, I don't believe that BMW has a center armrest for the 8's. If you search the archives here, there are posts regarding aftermarket arm rests. If you don't go with an armrest, you can buy some simple hole plugs to cover the screw holes in the console (8 of 'em, but only 4 screws...go figure).

If you want to remove the transceiver, it's in the trunk, behind the left rear seat. Drop down the bracket and the it's the skinny box next to the audio system amp.
